Paddock to Pen:
Lamb Containment Feeding: Industry Observations
What's Involved?
The on-farm part of the trial focuses on 14 farms in this geographic region
The 2026-27 Lamb Containment Feeding - Industry Observations Project is funded by the SQNNSW Innovation Hub. It is funded by the Australian Government’s Future Drought Fund, in collaboration with University of New England and AHN Consulting. Industry partners included Thomas Foods International, Optiweigh and Livestock Junction.
This project will aim to answer these main questions:
1. What is currently happening in the industry and on-farm?
2. What gives the best results and what is considered “best practice”?
3. What is the value and contribution of lamb containment feeding to drought and climate resilience?
4. What are the potential opportunities for the future?
5. What are the key research questions that require further investment?
❋ Industry-wide surveyWhat is currently happening in the industry and on individual farms right across Australia?
❋ Literature ReviewWhat does the science and existing literature say about containment feeding?
❋ On-farm observationsWe will drill down into the feeding and management practices on 15 farms across northern NSW and southern Qld.
❋ UpskillingWe will learn as a group and share findings with other interested producers through regular email updates and a field day.
We are proud to work with our project partners…
